McGillin’s
|
Address: 1310 Drury Street McGillin’s (Philadelphia) PA, 19107 Description: New York has McSorely’s with its old chicken bones, Boston goes to Jake Wirth’s to gnaw on pig’s knuckles, but lucky Philadelphia has the spacious, gracious, and beerily welcoming McGillin’s Old Ale House. McGillins sits at 1310 Drury Lane, where it has been since 1860. Old Mr. McGillin started with a small place back in 1860, which eventually grew to encompass the oyster house next door, the back alley/washroom, and the house where he and Mrs. McGillin had raised their 8 children. Busy guy, busy tavern. McGillin’s is an imposing edifice, with a classical brick and pillar front. McGillin brought his cousin over from England to design the bar, and it has the feel of a classic pub. There are tall windows, a high ceiling over a large square barroom dominated by four big columns, and an interesting red tile floor.
